The Barlow family added another girl to the team to make this the most adorable family ever! I love newborn lifestyle photography so when Dad contacted me to see if I would document their newborn in a lifestyle in-home setting, I was thrilled.
Lifestyle photography is so different than newborn studio photography. I call it "baby in a basket," meaning in the studio, you might get the photos of baby wrapped in a muslin wrap tightly and placed in a basket. I think this type of photography is adorable, don't get me wrong, it just isn't the type of photos I want to document. I consider myself more documentary, meaning I come to your home, document your life, your nursery, your genuine cuddles and kisses. It is a whole family affair — whether it is just you and your partner, or you have additional children. The photos look exception in black and white, perfect for memory books and also framing and hanging on the walls.
When I come to your home for a newborn lifestyle session, I don't bring any props. I use what we have, but really, it's less about props, and more about holding baby, baby sleeping on a bed or crib, handmade blankets you have at home, stuffed animals passed down from other children, etc. That doesn't mean I don't get those solo shots of just baby (including cute little toes, fingers, fuzzy heads, etc). I capture it all, just in a more documentary style.
